Marie,
 Can't your local Ford dealer tell you the towing rating? If you have
the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number, found on the tag on the dash,
driver's side, viewable from outside), they should be able to tell you
all about that vehicle, including whether it's subject to any recalls,
axle ratio, etc.
