Re: [A/S] questions from a newbie...
Mary - I'm a newbie also but with a $9.00 propane torch from Lowes, and a
Dremel tool to scuff up the inside and outside of the joint I managed to
sweat several swollen joints. Took two tries.
First one I was shaky and didn't heat both the joint and the pipes enough
(but I did scorch the wood under the pipes AND got a face full of water
when I did the pressure test!)
Second time I used a scrap of aluminum to put between the pipe and the
floor which worked fine. Both the pipes and I are doing fine. Pipes are
snug and my ego's not damaged.
It would be a good idea to try it in case your in the boonies and have a
problem.
PS. Also replaced some pipe with freeze resistant plastic but it requires
lots of parts for bends etc, Copper can be bend reducing the number of
joints and cost.
