Re: [A/S] Shock mounts

The axle(s) are torsion, as are all Airstreams, I believe. If one tire
goes flat, you can still drive on the remaining three. The nature of the
torsion does not enable it to be 'forced' into twisting as far as to
accessing the stud mount. Indeed, that would be the ideal situation, but
the placement of the shock tower precludes any rotation- the stud is
still trapped between the tower and the frame.

Learn something everyday about these things, I still have to repack the
bearings on mine this spring, and I'll most likely ponder the shocks.

I'm still not done yet with the suggestions though, what about if the
other shock (other side) is also removed, the axle still doesn't swing
down far enough? I can't believe that this was the design from the
factory.

Could the new shocks possible not be the factory replacements (size
wise)?

As an alternate solution, what about grinding the side of the shock ring
enough to fit into the space, how much extra is needed.

Also, how thick are these plates, and some rough dimensions on the size
of them, width & height.

I sure wish I was in front of the trailer next to you. This sounds like
fun. It's not raining and outside it is? :-)
