As the owner of the same 1966 Safari I have to put my 2 cents in regarding 
our units.  They represent some of the finest quality and minimal 
engineering in Airstream's illustrious history.

Beginning with two lightweight, non-rusting aluminum LP gas tanks is a 
system of distribution that powers (in my unit) a stove and four burners, a 
generous size refrigerator, a hot water heater that gives two generous 
showers, a gas lantern and, a new addition of a catalytic safety heater.

In addition the Univolt system is steadily charging my marine storage 
battery and I use a lot of 12 volt lighting and power for my stereo.  As 
long as I am parked I plug in for Microwave, toaster oven, Dirt Devil 
vacuum, TV and computer.  My plans are to add 4 flexible 32 watt solar 
panels and golf cart batteries.

A relatively inexpensive 600 watt inverter will power any of the 
aforementioned AC appliances.  I just use them one or two at a time 
depending on the draw.

When I am finished I should have a self sufficient environment using 
renewable energy that is quiet and cheap.  The idea of fully electrifying a 
vintage Airstream and relying on a 6000 watt generator seems old fashioned 
to me :)
