You might remove the plasticoat also.

Our present trailer's top front panels plasticoat was ruined by someone
apparently using an unknown cleaning product on it - probably trying to
clean off bugs. He also apparently tried to clean up a mark on the side,
because I see the same danage there in one place. We are the second owners.

The plasticoat is used because it can flex, not because it can resist a
wide variety of strange chemicals.
