     According to Doug Showker (who works for Reese), it's ok to put 
a *light* coat of vaseline to reduce the noise; it won't affect the 
operation of the cams.  The noise can be annoying to others, 
especially when pulling out early; so it's not *just* an indication 
of the sway control working (although, it *is* that)
     
     If you've already been using a lubricant, you should clean it 
off - a household detergent, after wiping it off as well as possible 
with a rag, should do the trick.  That's what detergents are for.
