[A/S] Diversified power
One of the plans that I have always believed was that it was good to
diversify your energy loads in RV's. Electricity is freely generated by
the pulling vehicle alternator BUT is inefficient to store in
quantities. I use 3 12 volt storage batts between my puller and trailer.
Tasks like heating and refrigerating and cooking fell in the domain of LP gas.
When gasoline prices rose I expected that LP gas would rise proportionally
and continued to depend heavily on LP gas for many tasks. (e.g. Bought two
catalytic heaters)
Yesterday I drove by the local Uhaul dealer who sported a big sign for LP
Gas - $3.55 per gallon. It was $1.35 four months ago.
Gasoline is up 50 cents per gallon during the same period and electricity
rates have tripled for San Diego and now much of California.
So much for a diversified power portfolio. So much for leading an
inexpensive lifestyle in my classic 66 Safari.
