Yes, regardless who owned it before, you should shock the fresh water tank
ever year (some very nasty players can grow in a system that is not used
much.

Add the chlorine, fill the water tank, then all the lines, then make sure
the tank is topped off.  Let it sit at least 24 hours.  Drain everything and
flush everything.  You can use some backing soda to absorb the chlorine
taste but it is not necessary, chlorine is added to your water supply at
home, the chlorine taste goes away on its own if you choose not to use the
baking soda.
