Steve, 

I strongly recommend you have a CO test done with satisfactory 
results before you use your furnace again.  The furnace on my 69 
overlander was no bad when we first purchased it. I ran it with a 
single use co detector (one that changes colors).  Mine was so bad it 
quickly turned the disk black! I had the furnace replaced with a new 
suburban.  The shop was able to fit in it's old place. Since I did 
not do the work I don't know how they got it out.  I do know they 
removed the board across the bottem of the cabinet. All said and 
done, it was less than $500 installed.
