Steve,
	I feel that, with all the advice, you have not received a proper answer
to your letter.
	The furnace comes out by:
	Remove the screw that holds the outside vent 
		this will be 1 screw
	There are screws that hold the unit to the floor
		There may be 4 or 6
	Remove the gas line
	Remove the electrical.
		there will be 2 wires for 12 volt and at least 2 for the thermostat. 
There may be more.
	Slide it out from under where it is.

	It will be much easier to work on when out in the open.

	While you have it out, take the cover off.  This will entail removing
several screws on the side or bottom.  It depends.  check for a foreign
object.  Maybe a mouse carried something in.  This I would think would
be the cause of the smell.

	While you are there, take a vacuum cleaner and remove the dust.
	Check the sail switch, oil the fan, clean up as much as you can

	Go to your local hardware/home center and buy a cheep propane regulator
and the fitting that will fit your tank.  Also get the fitting that goes
on to your furnace and a piece of hose to connect them.  I would not
recommend a garden hose but any thing that will hold 40 psi of water
pressure will hold 1/2 psi of propane.  Be careful.

	A good place to work on this in the South would be a picnic table.  No
worry about ventilation.  In the north, open the door.
	Fire it up.  You can use a 4 or 5 amp battery charger for power and
just a wire connected to make the switch closure of the thermostat and
see how it runs.  Adjust the pilot flame for "the right size" flame
(this is a gas adjustment) and make it "the right color" (this is an air
adjustment)  Look at the flame on the water heater to see what is
right.  There is o pilot light on the refrigerator.

	Let it run 15 or 20 minutes.  See if it still smells.  Some of the
older Suburban furnaces had a problem of the heat exchanger cracking. 
This is a dangerous problem.  It could allow the combustion gases to
come into the heated part of the trailer.  You should be able to see
cracks in the heat exchanger.  If they are there, buy a new furnace.

	There is not a lot else that can go wrong with the unit.  When you have
it running right, put it back.  If you do not feel confident of your
work, have it check.  Be yee not afraid!
