Thanks everyone for your well-thought-out replies!  I
am fortunately keeping comfy because we took the
precaution of putting a heat strip in our Duo-Therm
unit last fall, just in case, and it is keeping things
fairly comfortable.
My husband will be back from his out of state trip
tomorrow, and he is MUCH handier than I am.  He also
suspects the thermocoupler--at any rate we'll probably
try that first, if he doesn't see any other obvious
problems.  Besides, he has the flashlight, and its too
dark under there for me to root around much.
