The propane is stored as a liquid and to be worth anything the gauge 
must show liquid level... Usually mechanical, but sometimes a 
temperature sensor glued to the outside..  Pressure gauges are available 
and are sort of a scam... they read about 200+ # until the tank is empty 
and then they drop to zero as the last bit of gas is used....
