Kim,

I would say the easiest thing to do is to replace the thermocouple.  It is
fairly simple to remove it.  Usually a screw or two where it goes into the
flame area possibly a clip along the way, but a nut that fastens it into the
gas valve.

Just bring it along to the hardware store  or trailer supply to measure
length and match it up with bulb types.

There is a gas sealed within the tubing so be aware of how you handle it.
Don't crimp or cut it in any way.  Make sure you line the new one up so the
pilot flame is detected on the bulb.

These things lose their charge sometimes and just won't keep the pilot lit
any longer.

My money is on the thermocouple.

The older furnaces are simpler to get going...no electronics.
