The Harbor Freight hoist sounds like a good arrangement to me also. As a
one time situation I used one of those ratchet type "come-along" manual
winches to pull my Onan generator up an incline of 2x6s into the back of
my pick up. The generator is an older unit very heavy out of a motor home. 
I had it sitting on a hand truck which was lying flat. I wouldn't want to
have to load and unload it very often with my crude method.
