Re: [A/S] best tire choice for a 68 Overlander that's been sitting for a whil...

The correct tire for your coach is a Goodyear Marathon, ST225/75R15.The load
rating that you can use on your old wheels is dictated by the load rating
that was used in the past. Namely, if load range "C" tires were used for an
extended period of time, then you MUST NOT increase it any higher. If you do,
the wheels will split. This information is provided by Hayes Axle, the
manufacturer of the original wheels used by Airstream back then. If you
choose to increase the rating to "D", you must replace the wheels, again as
per Hayes Axle. The proper replacement wheel has a rating of 2600 pounds per
wheel. Additionally, there is no cheap tire that competes with the Marathon.
The Marathons are made from a different composition rubber, that rejects more
UV, so that they last longer in time than ordinary tires. However, if you
plan on wearing them out in a couple of years, then it doesn't matter.
But, if you do not put many miles on them each year, and you want them to
last a
long time, then the Marathon is the tire to use. Since Airstream switched to
the Marathon's some time ago, the tire problem is almost non existent. As the
old story goes, you get what you pay for. Lori and Andy
