Re: [A/S] Tow Vehicle Choices
Why these enormous gas engines which use fuel like it is going out of style?
I use a 92 Dodge with a cummings diesel. I tow a 24ft Tradewind average 15-18
mpg towing I use the truck as a second car and get 22mpg around town. The
Cummings is a straight 6 cyl so every thing that might need maintainance is
plain in sight.A simple maintenance friendly engine. On a th
rip through West VA and PA I had to only drop out of 5th gear once on the
interstate I cruised at 60 65 mph. Cost wise on the truck I bought mine with
86K miles for a little less than $9000. The big gas engines may be ok but I
have a friend who has a Dodge V10 he reports 8mpg running empty
I have reports of the Cummings Diesel running in the excess of 400K miles. my
understanding of the powerstroke engines and the GM diesels that they are
short lived. At least my suberan Diesel was.
Before spending an obscene amount of money on a new truck why not check the
used market I can go on many trips on the difference between what I spent on
my used truck and what a new one would have cost and the difference in flue
consumption of my diesel and a gas hog just about pays my overnight parking.
