     With all due respect to your experiences, Charlie, it doesn't 
look as rare as you contend; of course, ANY is too many.  20 tow 
vehicles at Sarasota with defects out of what, 600 odd RVs, maybe 2/3 
trailers...that's 5%...probably an overestimate...maybe 1% would be 
more accurate...still a lot.  
     I certainly agree that loose bolts are far more common, though, 
and easier to check and remedy.
     Doug Showker regularly gives lectures, with samples of cracked 
platforms on hand so you can see what to look for.
