     What case?  That people like (love) their diesels?  They sure do. 
That everyone should get a diesel?  They sure shouldn't.  Jim's right 
- it's a 'want' thing, not a 'need' thing, for most people.
     I think John's point is that many - perhaps most - people don't 
keep their truck long enough to make it pay, not that they don't last 
a long time and a lot of miles - they clearly do.  That's only the 
financial view, of course.  Many people, like me, don't factor the 
finances in so strongly, when considering something they really want 
to have.
