[A/S] Re: [AS} dura torque

Consider this, you have the trailer coupler sitting on the ball. The
2 equalizer bars coming off the hitch are sticking out toward the
trailer but not connected to anything. You get 2 tough guys, one on
each side to hold them up where they need to be.
At this point the trailer tongue weight is not changed but the guys
are complaining because they are holding up 300 pounds each. You
suggest that they place the end of the bars on some little brackets
on each side of the trailer tongue.
The bars still have a downward force of 300 pounds each, that is 600
pounds, what is holding it up? If the bars are 24 inches long and the
distance from the ball to the trailer wheels is 144" the trailer
wheels hold up 1/5 or 120 pounds while the hitch holds up 4/5 or 480
pounds.
Now instead of having 450 pounds on the ball you have 930 pounds.
This is basic lever mechanics.
