Ray, 

The equalizer springs of a weight distributing hitch affect the 
vertical allignment of the trailer and tow vehicle. Sway control has 
to do with the horizontal alignment and movement between them. While 
there may be some change in sway characteristics after adding weight 
distribution, unless you tow with a heavy & long wheel base vehicle 
and a short light trailer, sway control is highly recommended.
