RE: [A/S] Ford? or Chevy

Dave, Are you really being realistic about the fuel milage of these two
trucks? I have a '93
Ford F250 with the 460 gasoline engine and 4:10 rear end gear. This has got
to be the most gas hoggy truck they made that year. At its worst I have
gotten 8 mpg. At its best, 13mpg (Both figures were while towing!). Normally
I can count on 11 mpg if I keep it to 55mph, bump the speed up to 70mph and
the milage goes down to about 8.5 mpg. 5 to 7 sounds like there is something
wrong with the truck, perhaps a carb rebuild is called for. On the other
hand, I'll bet that you will never see 17 to 20 mpg while towing with the
new Ford diesels. The diesel Fords that I have heard about get from 11 to
14 while towing. Sure I want a diesel truck, it would look great sitting
next to my wife's diesel car. I hope my next truck is a diesel, but I won't
try to justify it by saying that it will be saving me money! You cannot save
money by spending even more money! But yes, there comes a time when it just
doesn't make economical sense to fix the old vehicle.

PS the Duramax that GM is comming out with sounds to be a much more refined
engine than what Ford offers. Personally I would opt for a cummins though. I
bit less power, but greater MPG's.
