 I use RivNuts all the time. Although I bought my kit from an outfit called
"Applied Engineering", out of Cleveland, OH, they are available for less $$$
from JC Whitney. Go to http://www.jcwhitney.com to find them. JCW carries
aluminum and steel rivnuts, and the former is probably better when used in
the aluminum of an A/S.

The sizes I use most are 8-32 or 6-32 for covers, etc., 10-32 for more
substantial stuff, and 1/4-20 on occassion. My kit includes Riv-Nuts up to
3/8-16; I recently installed some in the bed of my P/U to secure some shelf
assemblies that sit along the sides of the bed. You could start out with
8-32 and 1/4-20 sizes and probably never really need anything else. Unless
you buy a kit that includes a bunch of other sizes, of course.

The space you describe as available for a grey water tank would have a
capacity of only 10 gallons or so. That's better than nothing, but is pretty
small. There are outfits that make custom tanks, your local welding shop
could probably do it. You might want to consider stainless steel if you have
it welded up. Venting is done by connecting a pipe from the top of the tank
and tapping into an existing vent stack, or by running a completely new
stack up through the roof.
