Toby, I was very fortunate as the person that I bought the '68 Caravel from
turned out to be a customer of mine ( I didn't know that at the time)
I went to look at the trailer with a flashlight, small screwdriver ect. (
others have covered that ground) But I also spent several months lurking on
this list and learning about the different pitfalls, problems & cost to
correct. I have a bazillion different sites saved regarding various items &
costs connected to them. Then I started checking out ads & getting an idea
of cost vs. consdition. There is an excellent article in the FAQ section of
the VAC site regarding condition classification of Airstreams. I would
suggest a good starting point would be a survey asking a couple of
questions, Such as : What Model? What kind of condition? & How much?
Including transportation costs. I have seen accounts of people buying an AS
only to spend an additional $1000 or so to get it home.
     The important thing is to get a standard set of criteria for the
condition of the trailer, and to allow for regional differences too, as
always seems to be the case, they cost more in sunny California.
