[A/S] How useful is a generator?

We are just getting started and know next to nothing about 
trailering. I was just wondering how often does one need a generator 
when you travel with a 31 foot trailer? Is it most common to stop 
only at camp sites with power? Is it a bad idea to just take off on 
side roads and camp where ever you find a spot? DO you end up having 
to be towed out of the mud like Lucy and Desie in The Long Long 
Trailer? That movie is about the extent of our experience but we are 
hoping to find desolate wilderness isolation into which we can bring 
5.5 kilowatts of appliances.
   If people do find places to park their Airstreams off the beaten 
path then a generator might be a good thing to have. I have seen 
references to noise level regulations in National Parks. My generator 
would probably violate Airport noise regulations. Anyway, so, what 
kind of places should I expect to go to with my 31' Sovereign.
