Re: [A/S] Re: California Taxes

Ah jeeze Airstreamer:

I gotta do all your legwork (mousework) for you.

OK I think you did not look FAR enough.

To make it easy on ME, how about trying this:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/nonresident.htm

This happens to be instructions for bringing a vehicle in from out of
state. (For all I know this is what you want to do, if not....) There
are all kinds of other instructions there as well if this one doesn't
suit you.

Under: HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY? (about in the middle of the three
pages) you will find all the goodies. The only thing that it does not
make very clear is the Vehicle License Fee, which is "assessed based on
the value of your vehicle and collected in lieu of a personal property
tax". This fee is 2% of the value, which deminishes by 10% per year
thereafter down to some minimum that I don't remember what it is.

If you want to know what that minimum is....look it up or call the DMV.

Later,

GQ '67 Safari

PS: Also, when you think you have it all figured out, the DMV will do
their special voodoo whammy on it and it will cost you a few more bucks
for a variety of reasons, PLUS typically, you will have to make more than
one trip there to straighten out the paperwork. They got me for 3 trips
when I registered my Safari from out of state. My tax dollars at work.
