Fw: Fw: [A/S] Happy Anniversary Hunter
A week or so ago, someone indicated their worst travel spot by far was Top
of Georgia. I forwarded that note to one of TOG's directors as information.
Following is his response.
Yes, I am aware of many of the bad press items we have had on the 'net, but
most always there is a second side to every story. Although we have voted
to get another line for net purposes at the TOP, it hasn't been
accomplished
yet. We are, you see, at the very end of the phone system at Helen, and it
takes more to accomplish anything there than it does in metro Atlanta.
Inclusive in this is the "slow" lines which would make a download that you
or I could accomplish very quickly, take forever there. Some people that
use
the net like you or I,would be thoughtful, I'm sure, in that they would
download everything, then go read, and respond, then come back and
reconnect to send. Others are not quite that humanistic in their
actions. There was an example of this just the other day, when, no one could
get the phones to work A woman, not a member but a visiting Airstreamer,
had, without asking anyone, unplugged the phone in the game room, and had
been on the net over an hour. She was very upset when asked to cease. She
got on the net a couple of days later giving scathing reviews. Dave, this is
the only way we have to communicate there. We have no cell phone capability,
and we have many older folks there- one died just four/five weeks ago while
being the host.We must limit all phone use to short conversations. Until we
get the phone lines hooked up, we as net users will just have to be patient.
It took some lobbying on the parts of several to convince others that do not
use computers of the attributes of another line and of having a web page.
