The earliest use of the model name Caravel, was in 1956.  It was made
for only one year, as a 16 footer, and only in the 3 year old Ohio plant
in Jackson Center , Ohio.  Again in 1959, the Caravel model was
reintroduced as an 18 ft model.   Caravel is the English spelling,
Caravelle is the French spellling, and Portuguese is Caravela.  The
Caravel was a small , light, fast sailing ship, used in the 16th
century. I think in the seventies, the name plate was changed to read
Caravelle.   I have never seen a 16 ft Caravel from 1956, because the
owners probably think it is a "Bubble".   Bubbles were only made in the
LA plant in 55, 56, and 57.   In 1965, the Caravel was again
reintroduced as a 17 ft model, and was really just a spruced up Bambi
II.  In 1969, the Caravel changed to 18 feet, and retained that length
into the seventies.  The Caravel in 66, 67, and 68 had the Corning
windows and Phillips closures.  The Corning windows were very thin and
curved to the radius of the coach, and from a side view looked like
this...  (  .  They had square corners.  In 69, the radius corner
windows were introduced.
