The truck I described below is about the size of an old milk truck, a
bit smaller than a typical UPS truck, but maybe about the same as a
typical FedEx truck. As Gerald points out, if it's a delivery truck, it
might be pretty clapped out, but if it belonged to a tradesman (plumber,
electrician, et. al.), it might have quite a bit of life left.

Another thing to keep in mind when you're comparing these large
commercial vehicles with a used P/U is cost of any needed repairs.
Although the transmission in the road tractor that you first asked about
is good for many, many miles, if you happen to buy it just before it
goes, you might be looking at huge bucks to get it fixed. Same with
brakes, radiator, alternator, etc.

I often joke about repairing my John Deere backhoe tractor: I have to
lay a hundred dollar bill on the parts counter before the guy will even
say "Good Morning". It's almost that bad. :-(
