 Throw out that old converter and get either a StatPower charger (see
http://www.statpower.com for refurbushed 20-amp outfits) or an
IntelliPower Converter, available from Camping World. The latter has a
"SmartCharge" module available for it that makes it work as a true
3-stage battery charger.

The problem with conventional converters is that they're very poor
battery chargers. They don't charge a 'low' battery very fast at all,
yet overcharge a 'full' battery if left on for long periods of time.

I bought a StatPower last year and it works OK if I happen to plug in
the 115-volt power cord, but I'd probably get the IntelliPower today.
Our power cord hasn't been connected since I installed the solar system.
