[A/S] Installing external cellphone antennas atop the Airstream
Go to a hardware store and buy one of the little octagonal electrical box
cover plates. They are about 4x4 inches and maybe a sixteenth thick. Also
buy a tube of Silicone RTV glue/caulking/sealant. Use the RTV to glue the
plate to the top of the trailer. The magnetic mount antennas will stick to
the plate fine. I have used this method for years to install cellphone
antennas and 2-meter ham antennas. Works for me. I do not try to ground the
plate for cellphone or 2-meter ham antennas, but grounding might be needed
for CB antennas. I have not had any significant rusting of the plate.
The only difficult part is finding a ladder to install it while on the
road. I do stuff like this at home.
