Re: [A/S] $$$Bambi?

Sarah and Steve,
If you can wait until next month, the new 2001  Bambi 16 will be
introduced.  It will be the 40th Anniversary since the introduction of
the 1961 Bambi.   This new Bambi will be lightweight, have a modular
frame for expansion,  and probably under 2500 lbs.   It can be pulled
with a minivan, full size car, or a small pickup.  It will have new
lightweight materials inside and the cost is to be under $20K.
Airstream dealers will have info sometime next month.  If you want a
used Bambi 19, I have seen them for sale, at a range between 16K to 22K.
The other trailers that you mention are called "throw away trailers",
because they last about 7 years, if you are lucky.   My 1961 Bambi will
be 40 next year and it still performs like new. You can see a picture of
it on the Airstream Dreams web site.    You can find a used Bambi or its
big brother, the Caravel, for $5K to 12K, depending on condition and
location.  You can buy an SOB, for much less, but, it won't last and it
will depreciate rapidly.    If you do join the Airstream community, you
will be welcomed in the WBCCI, Wally Byam Caravan Club , International,
and the Vintage Airstream Club, if your coach is at least 25 years old
or older.  Its a great club with over 10,000 members,  units in every
state, and many rallys and gatherings to attend and partake.  Good Luck
in your search.
