Hi Craig,

Welcome to the list. I will field this one as I had a '96 1/2 ton Suburban.  
Mine had the 3:43 rear so it only had a tow rating of 5500 pounds.... the 
3:73 rear has a tow rating of 6500 pounds.

That said, my Suburban didn't have enough power to pull my trailer... BUT, my 
trailer is new so it's much heavier than your trailer will be if you get a 
70s model.  Newer means heavier.

Another thing, if yours has the 3:73 rear it will have enough oomph for 
anywhere.... I knew I was going out west and would be up and down lots of 
mountains so I opted for a beefier truck.

So, I think your 1/2 ton 350 should be fine....

As for the 73 trailer.... make sure it doesnlt have "rear end sag"  The 73s 
are famous for it because that was the year they added the grey tank and not 
a stronger frame to carry it.  Many have been repaired already.... just sight 
down the side and look for a droopy rear end.
