For what it is worth.  Woodale's Travel mag, "Travel Trailer" carried a 
serialized story commencing in Dec 1959 called Trailer Holiday in Euorpe. 
written by Eugene Birchwood, M.D..  He and his wife had their 16 ft 
Airstream loaded on a frieght/passenger ship.  It was hoisted aboard 
without use of shipping container.  Round trip shipping cost then was 
less then $600.00 for trailer and about same for car.  Trailer appears to 
be a 1957 Bubble.  It is an interesting series of articles and speaks to 
all the planning they had to do with international drivers license, male 
and femal propane gas tank connectors, various acquisition problems with 
propane, electrical plug variations , travel maps etc.  If the person 
planning on such a trip cannot find this four article series they can 
contact me off line.
