You guys may be correct about the clear coat being already off but 
when I polish the trailer it seem to have a clear finish under the 
shine.  You can see the chips in it and a cloudy look to it somewhat 
milky, but after polishing an area the pads do turn black with 
aluminum oxide.  Know that I think about it I'm sure your probably 
correct because when I bought the trailer I had to remove the rear 
lights and you can see the edges of the clear coat and the mill
finish 
of the aluminum.  If you can tell by looking at a picture there is a 
picture of the trailer on the VAC web site under the fall rally bass 
lake. Thanks for opening my eyes to what just might be the obvious.
