[A/S] Towing Vehicle?

I've been looking for a tow vehicle for a '60's overlander that we're working 
on. After reading about the tow vehicles that folks use, I've been thinking 
along the lines of a Tahoe, Suburban or Ford Expedition.  However, they seem 
rather large and gas-hungry to drive for work, errands, etc. I seem to 
remember someone discussing cars (maybe like a Grand Marquis?) that one could 
tow with.  Is this so?  If so, what would I have to look for in a car if I 
were to tow comfortably and safely?  And what models should I consider?
