Re: [A/S] California - September 1, 2000

Hunts -

The voice of experience here: you do not want to tow north of Fort
Bragg.  Take 101 to Willetts and then cut over to 1.  The ride north of
Fort Bragg turns into a winding logging road that crosses the mountain.
You have the opportunity to burn up a tranny, engine and brakes.  I
did it once and that was enough.  BTW, there ain't squat to see north
of Fort Bragg/Mendicino.  SF starts at Mendicino: you can still get
good french bread.  Fort Bragg has crap.  Mendicino is where "Murder
She Wrote" is/was filmed.  Very boutiquey and artsy.  I like Fort
Bragg; very lumber and fish but no tchatchky; well, no expensive
tchatchky.   If you can stop for breakfast at the Little River Inn and
eat Ole's Pancakes.  Pretty goood.  Not cheap, but fun and with a sort
of trendy crowd.  The place has a golf course and a lingerie shop.  You
figure it out.  Lot's of guys going with their "nieces" I guess.  :o)
I always went with a married woman; my own.

But, back to the question at hand: take 101 to Willets, then the
highway to Fort Bragg or Mendicino and south on 1 from there.
