[A/S] No trailer brakes after tire mishap

I presume you mean the wires to the brakes.  It's a distinct 
possibility.  When my separation occurred, I looked around and 
discovered that the brake wires were still there - they're not really 
in the immediate line of fire, but when those tire things happen, you 
should suspect everything.  You could crawl - or ask someone to crawl 
- under and look.
