Re: [A/S] New web service from Dish Network coming soon.
Hi all I am new to Airstream. Just got a 1971 Safari to pull behind my
Excursion v10. I am so excited about the places to go and restoration to
do:)
Anyway, I am not new to Dishnetwork or Satellite. My husband and I have
owned a satellite dealership since 1991. Satellite is what bought me my new
toy.
The system you are talking about is the "Gilat To Home" that Dishnetwork,
Microsoft, Gilat, and Radio Shack have joined together to sell. It will
probably have a new name by the time it is released. I am currently using
one in the alpha test. It is a large oblong dish with 3 lnb'son the front. 2
of the lnb'sare the standard dishnetwork 500 setup. The third one is a
rec/transmit vsat lnbf. That is then hard wired to a skyblaster card that is
inside a full size computer. At this time they do not have an external card
available.
Setup is similar to Dish except that it can (not always just sometimes)
require a spectrum analyzer to lock on to the Gilat satellite. An analyzer
is a $1000 piece of equipment for measuring signals. My company has
installed about 30 of these things and sometimes it takes only 4 hours and
somedays it takes 8 hours.
In my opinion the Gilat will go to market in 2001 as part of a new computer
and then slowly transform for the add on market and then the laptop market.
The monthly subscription is looking like $69-$79.
If I can answer any Sat. questions fire away because I know I have lots of
A/S questions.
