[a/s] Jackson Center repairs, service and warranties
Folks -
Just a short update on my travails out here in Jackson Center, the home of
Thor/Airstream. As most if you know, I showed up here two weeks ago for
warranty work. I had a prepared list of some 30 items which needed fixing.
I included the list along with pictures on a CD I presented to the service
rep and kept a copy for myself. The plan was that way we would both have a
clear idea of what needed to be fixed.
Work began on the coach on 24 July and proceeded for a total for four days.
Some small items were fixed. And fixed cleverly. The quality of workmanship
in service is better than in the factory where the errors are made. But most
of what needs to be fixed is not. And none of the major things have been
fixed. Things like a floor which slopes and buckles, a leak in the bedroom
wall, a leaking shower door, a hole in the floor of the closet where I can
see light form outside through the wheelwell and a door which will not hang
plumb after five tries. The door also leaks. Water drips in when it rains.
I do not know if this was from before or as a result of the most recent to
get the door to hang straight.
I do know that when I bring this to the attention of the "service rep" he
just ignores me. Is "service rep" an oxymoron? As for the sloping floor,
"We do not consider this a problem."
There is a fellow here with one of the large AS RVs who is asking for a
refund. If I do not get some sort of action pretty soon I am going to have
to ask for a replacement. I have been stalled with "we are waiting for a new
sofa" to replace the old one.
Which brings me to the question of how can furniture wear out so completely
in less than a year?
Curioser and curioser. I will be talking to the guy asking for a refund
before I go over and ask for an appointment with Sharon Rhoades who I
understand is the miracle worker out here as an ombudsperson between the
customers and the plant. There are no happy people out here waiting for
repairs, I can tell you that.
