     Just about any oil can be burned in a diesel engine.  Cruising
boats usually change oil every 100 hours.  Long-range cruisers away 
from disposal facilities will sometimes burn the used engine oil in
the diesel engine.  During the gas-crunch of the Carter administration
many farmers here in eastern Virginia resorted to using peanut oil
for tractor fuel.  They reported that it didn't make as much horsepower 
as diesel fuel, but was otherwise satisfactory.
     Using untaxed fuel on American highways is illegal.  Using fuels
other than diesel oil specially blended for on-road vehicles may raise
emissions levels, also illegal.  The use of alternate fuels may void
vehicle warrenties.  Burning used engine oil will certainly clog fuel
filters prematurely (which can bring an offshore boat to grief).  The
physical properties of the fuel may affect the operation of injectors.
     Without specific knowledge of the outcome of burning alternate
fuels I will not introduce them into my engines, and recommend the 
same to others
