Our 1998 Bambi came w/o rockguards.  I have been wondering if we should 
install them.  One of my thoughts is that we could wait to see if the trailer 
really gets dinged up and if it does then we could install the guards and 
they would hide the damage anyway.

Do the guards prevent any damage other than dings to the aluminum they cover?
