[a/s] Old "Pipeframe" Airstream

Hello All,
      I've been somewhat a lorker on the list as I am very much new to this
thing( In fact I am looking for a trailer) To get to the point someone has a
rough '49 or '50 single axle 21' in upstate NY. They want to sell it for
nothing ($500) and they were kind enough to send me lots of explicit
pictures of the good bad & ugly of the whole thing.
      Here's the problem. they describe it as a "pipe frame " Airstream.
Please correct me if I am wrong , I thought Airstreams were fabricated in
aluminum in a fashion similar to aircraft.
     When I think of pipeframe I think of steel tubing ect. Is anyone
familiar with the construction of these older models? I have a pretty good
collection of pictures of this old trailer if anyone wants me to forward
them by e-mail.
     I may seem a bit cocky but I am not to intimidated by its condition,
except if it is steel & aluminum I might as well kiss the frame goodbye, and
that would be beyond my abilities , as for the interior, I did cabinetmaking
for several years and I am not to afraid of that. Any feedback would be
deeply appreciated. By the way I really love the laid back friendly feel of
this list, personally, I don't mind getting of on tangents provided they
have a vague connection with the subject at hand, deer whistles, whistle
pigs and all. I hope to have the privledge of meeting all of you someday.
