[a/s] Whitefish, Kalispell and Libby, MT - July 16,2000

Hi Gang,

Don and I drove from St Mary's to Kalispell on Friday morning. The drive was
breathtaking.... we went back down to Browning then took Rte 2 from East
Glacier to West Glacier through the southern tip of the park. Then through
towns with colorful names like Hungry Horse and Whitefish.

Kalispell is a city. Very spread out and is surrounded by mountains on all
four sides.

We stayed at the Rocky Mountain "Hi" campground. Our trailers backed up to a
pasture with the mountains beyond.

We dropped the trailers and went to Whitefish.... it's a charming, slightly
yuppie, town. We walked around, me slipping in and out of shops while Don
got to hold the dogs.....

I want a new Sony Mavica camera... I had seen one at Sams Club, but they were
out of them (I saw the demo)... so when I saw a Costco I thought they might
have them. We went in, using a "guest pass" which allows you to look, but
not shop. No Sony Mavicas... but I did want chicken and turkey sausages... I
grabbed them and went to the checkout where I got a card carrying shopper to
buy them for me.... (c:

Yesterday morning I went "junking" one of my favorite pursuits.... all the
junk, consignment and antique shops I could find.... nothing )c:

Then last night Don and I went back to Whitefish...to a terrific restaurant
called Wasabe.... not hard to figure it's a sushi joint. It was delicious....
I have been craving sushi...

Sadly, this morning Don and I said goodbye as we have commitments in
different places. He in Washington and me here in Libby, Montana... where
I'm now happily parked in what used to be a sheep field next to an old
friend's log cabin here in the Kootenai (pronounced Koot-n-nee) Forest.

The drive here was awesome, two huge lakes both with almost navy blue water.
Is any road ugly in Montana??? I don't think so.

Will stay here visiting and sightseeing for the next 3-4 days....the dogs
love it, they are completely fenced in so they can run. Tucker stinks now,
like sheep lanolin... not sure what he got into. Tonight, pizza at the Red
Dog Saloon.... dontcha love it?

So, next week I'll be flying solo to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
