Andy,
 If your fridge is like mine, there's several controls. Starting at the
LH side, there's the ignitor, the safety bypass (used while lighting),
the gas thermostat, the gas/electric selector, and the electric
thermostat.

Go outside to the back access panel and watch while someone turns the
selector, or turn it from there. You'll find that one way from the
Center/Off position opens the gas valve, the other way turns on the
electrical switch. You might have to push or pull the shaft while
turning it, but do whatever it takes to select "Electric". You can then
adjust the temperature with the far RH knob.
