As I continue my restoration of a 1966 Safari I am coming to the conclusion
that Airstream used rivets too frequently in production of their vintage
models.  There are some places where through bolts are a better solution.
For example the hinges that hold the aluminum cover on the rear bumper are
riveted on.  A through bolt or (screw & nut) would be stronger and easier to
replace since most everyone has a screwdriver and wrench.

There are many more examples of places on Airstreams where rivets were
overused.  In general wherever there is easy access to both sides of the
surface, bolts work as well or better.
