I am embarrassed to say it but I bought (and am very pleased with) a Uhaul
Activator II to control the electric brakes on my 1966 Safari.  It has a
simple dial up relationship between the pulling vehicle and the trailer.
The numbers go from 1-10 and I usually drive at 5.5 which gives a slight
bias to the trailer.  Coming down big mountain descents I use 6.5 and the
trailer pulls me back to a slower speed.

The unit is cheap, efficient and is obtainable at bigger Uhaul dealers.
