RE: [a/s] Bikes

Regards security, you can choose the size cable and lock used with any system.  They can still steal the seat post or front wheel.  The key to security is saavy about where to park and who's watching when your party leaves your rig unattended.

The simple system I described of hanging the front wheel over the tailgate (with a furniture blanket to protect both bike and tailgate) and locking the bikes with a BIG cable costs nothing.  It is does not tie up as much real estate in the truck bed as an expensive dedicated carrier and it is equally secure.  It is also faster and easier to stow the bike using this technique than bed mounts.

I also don't like mounts that fit over the rear4 bumper of the Airstream.  They block access to the rear stowage hatch and sewage system.

I used to own a bike shop and believe me they make more on the carriers than they do on the racks :)
