One simple way to carry bikes in a pickup is to
put a furniture pad over the tailgate. Then turn the front wheel 90
degrees and put it over the tailgate. The rest of the bike is on its rear
wheel pointing to the rear of the truck. I have seen eight
bikes placed side by side using this technique. Two bikes should take
a minimal footprint in the rear of your PU bed. Lock them with a
cable.
