Re: [a/s] HELP! H/W Heater Advise
Well- $155 is a real good price, but I bet that this is a pilot type, and
not an electronic ignition (DSI) type. If it is an electronic one, I would
go ahead and get it, use the parts you need for now, and keep the rest for
when the tank fails.
But...
I am confused as to the parts/labor breakdown of the repair. I'm assuming
you have a Bowen or Atwood water heater (same thing). The circuit boards
for these are real expensive (we sell them for $126), and the electrodes
are in the $20 range- but- it only takes 30 minutes to an hour (absolute
max) to test, clean, and replace both these parts, and that includes adding
an extra ground wire.
So- what are the symptoms? (the most common failure is the thermostat on
these- under $15.00 and 1/2 hr tops to change).
IOW- does it ignite, and go out, or does nothing happen (no red light), or
does the red light just stay on when you turn the switch on?
