Re: [a/s] To tow a vintage Airstream

I recall seeing plenty of old caravan photos in the archieves of trailers
being towed by cars from the early fifties before they had the thundering
300+hp engines of the mid late fifties. the V-8s and straight eight of the
early fifties averaged 140hp and many trailerites were advised to tow with
pickups which at that time had 6cyl engines which according to a 1958
trailer buying and towing manual were the perfect tow vehicle for heavy
trailers and they were 1/2 tons. Sorry to sound like a broken record but
they were considered safe with the proper hitch setup. If a trailer weighs
a bit more that the tow vehicle, an equalizer hitch removes a considerable
amount of weight from the trailer and distributes it on all 4 wheels of the
tow vehicle, making a medium weight car very stable.
